SUBJECT : Retaining Local Paths
DATE : 5/8/90
FYI # : 050890ge
OS VERSION : 286 and 386
GENERAL INFORMATION :
PROBLEM : How do you retain a user's local paths when mapping
search drives?
SOLUTION : There are two ways of mapping drives without
overwriting local paths.
MAP S16:=[path]
or
MAP INSert S1:=[path]
MAP S16: will append the search drive to the path using
the next available drive letter. MAP INS S1: will
insert the search drive into the path at the first
location using the next available drive letter.
COMMENTS (Optional) : There is one exception to this process. If you are
using DOS 4.X with 286 NetWare then using either MAP
S16: or MAP INS S1: will still overwrite your path. A
possible work-around is to use the 386 MAP utility on
your 286 network.
